set of masks for all skin problems(Magic recipes + important information)

Treating yourself to a facial mask is like taking your face on a mini health retreat! So many claim it is the best thing to do for your face, yet how many of us actually find the time to do it? Or the money to visit some beauty spa? Well here’s a few good reasons to make the time and better still how to do it with little cost right in your own home!

The skin is the largest organ of the body and it is constantly working. Did you know that the surface of your skin, known as the epidermis, loses 30,000-40,000 dead skin cells every minute, meanwhile new skin cells under your epidermis are being generated all the time. Good enough reason to think our skin needs all the help it can get!

Applying a mask can do wonders to revitalise your skin.  There are basically two types of masks; drawing masks which are normally clay based and will draw impurities and excess oil out of the skin as well as lifting off dead skin cells;  and hydrating masks which saturate the surface of the skin with moisture and helps to deliver nutrients which can penetrate deeper into the skin to nourish the new cells being formed.  Your skin type and needs will determine which one you choose.

Often a cleansing mask is needed around the centre of the face where oil persists, with a hydrating mask on the remainder. While taking the time to put a mask on and lying down with some chamomile tea bags on the eyes to calm and reduce eye sensitivity and puffiness works wonders, you can also apply a mask ‘on the run’ as it were, and carry on working at the computer or cleaning the house while you treat your skin. Ok you might not look your best if you have to answer the door but your skin will truly thank you for it!

Here are some of the most effective masking treatments that you can make yourself!

Egg, Honey and Coconut Hydrating Face Mask

1 Egg

¼ tablespoon of Coconut oil
1 tablespoon of honey

Break egg into a bowl and beat until fluffy.  Add honey and coconut oil to egg and beat well until you have a thick paste. If possible place in an airtight container and refrigerate overnight.

The following day apply mixture evenly to face and neck. Leave on for approximately 15-20 minutes then rinse with lukewarm water.

Avocado and Olive Oil Moisturizing Face Mask

3 tablespoons of olive oil

1 egg white
1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
1 avocado

Remove the skin from avocado and mash into a smooth paste.  Add vinegar and olive oil and beat together thoroughly.  In a separate bowl beat egg white and then add into avocado mixture until you achieve a consistency suitable for applying. Apply paste evenly to the face and neck and leave for 15-20 minutes.  Rinse off with lukewarm water.

Tomato Clarifying and Hydrating Face Mask

3 tablespoons of yoghurt

¼ of a peeled tomato
¼ of a grated cucumber
3 tablespoons of oatmeal

Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl.  Let it sit for 5-10 minutes so the oatmeal absorbs some of the moisture. Apply mixture to face and leave on for approximately 10 minutes.  Rinse well with lukewarm water.

Cleansing Clay Mask

1 teaspoon dry facial clay (most health food stores will sell this)

1/4 teaspoon facial moisturiser (natural and chemical free)
Water to mix

Mix together well and apply to the skin, massaging well into the skin to loosen dead skin cells. Leave to dry for 10-15mins then rinse off.

Here are some more goodies you will find in your kitchen:

A mashed avocado soothes and nourishes the skin.
An egg white tighten and firms the skin.
Yoghurt makes a great cleanser.
A mashed banana with a little lemon juice and honey hydrates and soothes the skin.
Mashed strawberries help balance an oily skin.
Potato is anti-inflammatory and calms puffy eyes beautifully.
Almond meal makes a great gentle exfoliator.
Cucumber slices are cooling and soothing and mildly anti-inflammatory.
Honey not only helps to lock in the moisture but it also contains anti-microbial and antioxidant properties.  Lightly heat 2 teaspoons of honey and apply it to your face, hands, and legs while warm. Leave on for 15 minutes then rinse.
Coconut milk is a miracle ingredient for dry skin, not only that but it can also help combat blemishes and dark spots.  Rub coconut milk onto your face and body and leave on overnight.

Eye & Face Refreshers

Placing soaked chamomile tea bags on your eyes when feeling fatigued or when you have a tension headache can do wonders.
Make a spritzer by filling a 100ml bottle with water and adding six drops total of your essential oils and use as a facial spray to refresh, hydrate and tone the skin. Favourite essential oils for the face are rose, lavender, eucalyptus, lime, palmarosa, rosewood or geranium.

So there you have it some delicious pampering treats for your beautiful face that wont cost the earth and certainly don’t take up too much of your precious time! Enjoy
